So, lately I been trying to get into 3d art and practicing in various things such as terrain sculpting, character, and concept design, Here is a few WIP that I have done over the past week. Feedback is appreciated!

So I went back to Unreal. Despite it's bugs and issues I made this. I still have alot of problems with unreal and can't even relight the scene but I still think it has more to offer then cryengine. The terrain was hand sculpted in the editor.

Here is my first house I made in 3ds max practicing some architecture and building things in power of 2..

So last night I got zbrush 4 and this is what I'm currently working on.

Over all I'm not really a 3d artist but hopefully able to make some scenes soon.

Thanks for showing us what your working on! Hard to believe you don't consider yourself a 3d artist, your work is excellent and your skills are diverse.

I think UDK is great, the biggest thing that pushed me toward CE3 was real time lighting and editing. Aside from that, UDK has really robust features and, user friendly tools and Epic seems indie-oriented. UDK 4 will have real time lighting as well, so I'm really looking forward to that.

Was your terrain really created 100% in the editor? That beats the heck our of all these pipeline / import / export processes we typically see, and looks shockingly good. If that's all in the editor, I need to take another look at UDK's terrain editor....

BTW, love the curvy roof and chimney fantasy look of the cottage, it will look great textured. Are you skilled in unwrapping / texturing?

If your referring to the one in unity then no. Unity has nice features and really easy to use but they even said they aren't making the engine to handle next gen games.

    @ArticialEx

Yes the terrain was 100% done with in UDK. The terrain editor is a lot better then the cryengines, imo. The grass was the only thing imported to the scene and the rest comes with udk. You can get a lot more detail if you increase the tessellation but my computer can't handle decent size terrains with tessellation. Once you get a hang of making terrain in the editor it's not really that hard to make decent terrain. I find it a lot easier then using some terrain gen and it's also free!

I know how to unwrap UVs and texture them but I'm a bit lazy when it comes down to actually doing it. I may end up texturing the house and might not. I am also wanting to get a certain art style. Something between hand painted and realism. I personally don't like hand painted games and refuse to work on such games that is done so. I also don't have the right tools and the computer power to achieve the best results atm.

The reason I stop using cry engine was for the simple fact the engine is just a toy and nothing more right now. There is no licenses to actually release a game with the sdk and there will never be any console support for the sdk. I am probably not going to work on any full fledged projects until UDK4 is released. My goal right now is just to make a simple scene and maybe some gameplay.

The reason I don't consider myself a 3D artist is because I am new to it and programming comes a lot easier to me. I don't think I actually finished anything 100% other than the a crate lol.

Here's an update! I am currently not able to make high quality stuff due to 4 gigs isn't enough for baking.

Update on the House. Here I am managing to get the base of the house done while I decided the doors windows and chimney accessories will be modular.

Here's a texture made in 3ds max. This was inspired from Gears3 azura's floor tile.(Texture was applied to a simple 6 sided cube.)

Ok, I'll work on some foliage soon and see what I get. I know I had problems with getting alpha channel right in max before. Also, want to try and make some dandelions and flowers because grass alone seems just blan.

Edit: Another thing is these assets are made in the power of 2(or in generic units) for UDK. They may need to be rescaled for cryengine.

Try this file see what you think. All you need to do is import add textures and make it 2-sided.

No, it's from 3dmotive.com tuts. That's grass isn't finished yet. I need to vertex paint it and turn normals up for better lighting and wind. In UDK the grass has an unwanted glow when the sun hits it directly(May need to build light). I don't know if it looks fine on your PC. If you could post a screenshot I would appreciate it. BTW, I didn't post this before but the mask is in the diffused alpha.

So today I made a hi to low poly hand made texture. I am looking for someone to test this out and see how it looks in cryengine/udk and would like some feed back. This is NOT for commercial use.

What is your aim with the texture bud, in terms of what type of brickwork are you aiming for?

    Looks kinda hieroglyphic.

This SandStone is as is. It was made mainly to be used for stone paths like the desert scene above but could have multiple uses. I will also make a more stone-like texture as well using this. Was looking for someone to try it and see how well it is on there actual computer. Sorry if I misunderstood your reply.
